Specialist SMSF Accredited Lawyer
Self-managed super funds (SMSFs) are a way of saving for your retirement. The difference between an SMSF and other types of funds is the members of an SMSF are usually also the trustees. This means the members of the SMSF run it for their own benefit and are responsible for complying with the super and tax laws.
You can pay an adviser a fee to do the administration or help with the investment decisions for your SMSF. make sure you understand what your adviser is doing because you cannot pass on the responsibility of being a trustee or director. The superannuation laws change regularly and you as a trustee/member must have a complying SMSF deed.
Your personal estate has a Will that controls the survivorship of your estate and so can your SMSF. With proper SMSF estate planning and survivorship documentation in place, you can control where and how your assets within your SMSF are to go and to whom. There is also superannuation tax benefits to proper SMSF estate structuring.
